Indiana Removes RFG Requirement for Clark and Floyd Counties
Indiana regulators have approved the removal of the reformulated gasoline (RFG) requirement for Clark and Floyd counties, eliminating a fuel standard that had been in place to support regional air quality goals. According to state officials, air quality improvements in the region mean the cleaner-burning fuel blend is no longer necessary, and the change will not affect compliance with federal air quality standards.
For fuel retailers and petroleum marketers, the policy change is expected to increase purchasing flexibility by allowing access to additional fuel suppliers. Under the previous requirement, reformulated gasoline was available from only one supplier, limiting sourcing options. Officials also expect the change to help reduce fuel costs for businesses and consumers.
