Indiana Extends Gasoline Use Tax Suspension

Legislative & Regulatory,

Today, Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced that he is extending the suspension of the gasoline use tax by an additional 30 days and also suspending the state’s 36-cent/gallon excise tax. These moves are effective immediately.

We presume that, as was the case with the GUT suspension last month, the excise tax holiday will apply to fuel delivered going forward. In turn, retailers should pass along the additional 36 cents/gallon savings to consumers after they receive a shipment of untaxed fuel. We will provide further guidance as we receive it.

Gov. Braun first suspended the gasoline use tax on April 8, and by law, he has the authority to extend the tax holiday for an additional 30 days. After that, the legislature would need to act in a special session for any further extensions.

IFFA remains in close communication with state agencies and will continue to provide updates as additional guidance becomes available. Members with questions about compliance, reporting, or pricing implications are encouraged to reach out directly.
